WILLIAM BLAKE (1757 – 1827) was an English poet, painter, and printmaker. Blake is considered a seminal figure in the history of the poetry and visual art of the Romantic Age. His visual artistry led 21st-century critic Jonathan Jones to proclaim him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced".

“He is held in high regard for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work. [He was] a committed Christian. The 19th-century scholar William Michael Rossetti characterised him as a "glorious luminary", and "a man not forestalled by predecessors, nor to be classed with contemporaries, nor to be replaced by known or readily surmisable successors."”

We are going to enjoy immensely this new chapter!!!

Blake’s art is remarkable, complex, sometimes with obscure symbolism; original, mystical. The more I study his paintings, the more I like his individualistic style.

He's been growing on me, also. Apparently, he is an acquired taste.

Just obeying the alphabet, LOL.

Blake’s appeal is limited, certainly, but another viewer’s wife has a coffee table book on him.

Glad I hit a homer for you. Perhaps you’ll gain some more favourites along the way....

William Blake must have been a genius.

This work reminds me of The Chosen series: By going beyond the text, he provokes thought and pulls stuff to the surface that we may not otherwise consider. Thus we are enriched and blessed.

Thank you!

Excellent point, K.

The biblical artists I admire the most all do exactly that. Most of the artists I’ll be featuring here are those.
